Economic Development

NENA is implementing an economic development program that supports small business incubation and workforce development in the Lower 9th Ward. The program, which is fully integrated with NENA’s case management services, is focused on assisting residents with resume preparation and job placement. NENA also provides ongoing services to local entrepreneurs, including assisting businesses with filing registration documents with City and State agencies. NENA has partnered with Mercy Corps to identify 20 small businesses to receive start-up and recovery grants.

NENA collaborates with the Good Work Network, Urban Entrepreneur Partnership of the Gulf Coast, and Hope Community Credit Union, among other organizations. In the next phase of the program, NENA will establish a formal small business incubator facility, provide job training in technology and administrative skills, and offer apprenticeships in the construction trades and office administration.
