 Housing Counseling

NENA is now a Certified Housing Counseling Agency with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Housing Counseling Department offers homebuyer-training classes. The classes are divided into two sessions. The first session introduces the homebuyer on the various types of loans; the mortgage process; how to calculate income/debt ratios for maximum loan amount; the Truth and Lending Statement; and how credit affects purchase. The second session informs the homebuyer about the fair housing laws; home inspection, and appraisal; how to select a home based on needs, wants, and affordability; pre purchase and post occupancy budgeting; understanding the purchase agreement; what happens at closing and how to read settlement statement.

NENA's trained Housing Counselors provide assistance with mortgage loan pre-qualification, soft-second mortgage loans, bond money with closing assistance, credit counseling, financial fitness, pre and post budget counseling, homelessness prevention and loss mitigation services to avoid foreclosure.
