NENA is now a Certified Housing Counseling Agency with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Housing Counseling Department offers homebuyer-training classes. The classes are divided into two sessions. The first session introduces the homebuyer on the various types of loans; the mortgage process; how to calculate income/debt ratios for maximum loan amount; the Truth and Lending Statement; and how credit affects purchase. The second session informs the homebuyer about the fair housing laws; home inspection, and appraisal; how to select a home based on needs, wants, and affordability; pre purchase and post occupancy budgeting; understanding the purchase agreement; what happens at closing and how to read settlement statement.
NENA's trained Housing Counselors provide assistance with mortgage loan pre-qualification, soft-second mortgage loans, bond money with closing assistance, credit counseling, financial fitness, pre and post budget counseling, homelessness prevention and loss mitigation services to avoid foreclosure.
NENA is certified by The Louisiana Homebuyer Training Collaborative.

Want to know what's been going on at NENA's monthly Community Meetings?
NENA's 1st CPR class was sponsored and held at The American Red Cross located at 2640 Canal St. This free class was offered only to a selected group of members of Lower 9th Ward NENA. During this fun, energetic, and informative class, members were taught how to resuscitate others in need of help.

· The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved NENA to be a Housing Counseling Agency.
· You can register for disaster food stamps at NENA. One of our trained staff members will assist you.
· Dr. King Charter School was the first school to open in the Lower Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina.
